Enhancing Play-Based Learning Across Canadian Classrooms
The P-BLOT™ is proud to be supporting educators in Saskatchewan and British Columbia, to elevate their play-based teaching practices through structured observation and reflective learning. Led by Dr. Sarah Aiono, the creator of the P-BLOT™, our work in Canada began in 2024 and is already showing significant impact in the Saskatchewan school community. School leaders in British Columbia will be trialling implementation of the P-BLOT™ as the new school year begins in 2025, after a successful training session with Dr. Sarah Aiono in the Comox Valley.

Looking Ahead: Expanding Our Impact
Dr. Sarah Aiono returned to Saskatchewan in 2025 to speak at the International Early Years Conference and support the continued implementation of the P-BLOT™ across the province. This included work in Humboldt, Saskatoon and Melfort. She trained a group of school and district leaders in Comox Valley, BC and will be continuing to support them, as well as SK educators as the new school year begins in September 2025. Her commitment to ongoing professional development ensures that educators have the tools and guidance they need to embed play-based learning with fidelity.
Positive Outcomes in the Holy Trinity Catholic School Division
Educators in the Holy Trinity Catholic School Division have reported significant improvements in their play-based teaching practices since implementing the P-BLOT™. Through systematic observations and reflective supervision, teachers are gaining deeper insights into their interactions, refining their approaches, and fostering more engaging learning environments for their students.

I am SO excited that you will be returning to Moose Jaw! I hope it is an event that allows me to fill my vehicle with fellow teachers and come learn from you again. The workshop in Moose Jaw a few weeks ago was transformative for me and I would love to continue learning from you!

It was a pivotal moment in my play-based learning journey when I stumbled upon Dr. Sarah and Longworth Education. You can imagine my surprise and delight when I learned that a world away a pathway for play-based learning beyond kindergarten had been established and actualized. While our work with the P-BLOT™ and the Longworth team is still in the very beginning stages it is evident that this tool and our partnership with Longworth will be essential in continuing to develop our practices. Having a research-based tool that clearly outlines best practices associated with teaching and learning through play feels like the missing piece in our current work. It is user-friendly and accessible. I appreciate that it is designed to support educators in developing their skills rather than as a supervisory tool. The P-BLOT™ allows me to work with educators to recognize their strengths and needs, set goals, and focus on doable actions to support the implementation of effective play-based learning practices. This is complex work! I am grateful to have found this tool and community and I am excited to continue learning alongside Dr. Sarah, the Longworth team, and our current group of play-responsive educators!
